The Birches Nursing Home is a Community Governed organization that operates a 42 bed Continuing Care Centre. The Birches is committed to the highest standards of support and services and promotes a health workplace for its 100 staff. The future is bright for The Birches Nursing Home with a new 48-bed facility being developed in the heart of Musquodoboit Harbour to replace the existing facility. JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Facility Supports Manager provides hands-on and day-to-day leadership for support services, including maintenance, housekeeping, laundry and dietary. The Facility Supports Manager ensures the consistent provision of a clean, aseptic, safe and well maintained environment, including the functioning of all aspects of the grounds and physical structure and its equipment. The Facility Supports Manager practices and carries out a preventive maintenance program, investigates the malfunctioning of equipment and deterioration of the building, records and schedules regular maintenance jobs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:

Post-secondary diploma/degree/certification in a related field, or equivalent experience

Minimum of three years’ related supervisory experience
-
Experience with computer systems, including Microsoft Office, automated building controls, Maintenance and Food Service software
-
Knowledge and experience with WHMIS 2015
-
Experience in human resources and labour relations
-
Skilled in policy development and utilizing evidenced-based practice
-
Knowledge in quality improvement initiatives, including outcome measures
-
Knowledge and experience in fiscal management
-
Experience with the business planning process
-
Knowledge and experience in Occupational Health and Safety
-
Practical experience with accreditation
Asset:

Experience in long term care
-
Experience in Emergency Planning/Management
-
Food Handlers certificate
-
Knowledge and experience in Quality Management and/or Infection Control

Experience working with Alzheimer’s and related dementias

SALARY: This is a non-union position.
HOURS OF WORK: The regular hours of work are intended to be from Monday through Friday. Given the scope and responsibility of the role, there may be occasions where the Facility Supports Manager may be required to stay beyond this time period. On call availability/flexibility may also be required.
